This year's Yard Sales is combining with a collection of neighbhorhood Eco-Tour events!

Begun in 2014, Yard Sales Days continues as a volunteer effort typically held the weekend around the Summer Solstice in June. This event helps people find new-to-them treasures and clean out usable household items from the neighborhood.

As the weather warms and spring cleaning shifts into full swing, consider holding off on that trip to the donation center and setting those items aside for a yard sale instead! Clean items that are dusty or dirty, and price them as you set them aside to make setup easier the day of the sale. Also start to gather boxes or bags for shoppers to use. (Note the yard sales have historically been held on the same weekend as the Garden Club’s garden walk and plant sale, but those events will not be happening this year. There will, however, be an Eco Tour on the 18th hosted by the PPA Environment Committee. Maps will show locations for both events.)

WHAT IS THE TAILGATE SALE?
The tailgate sale is held in the Pratt School parking lot. This is a great option if you don’t have a good place to set up a sale at home, or you just don’t have enough stuff to justify setting it all up. Those participating in the tailgate sale bring their items to the Pratt parking lot, find a place to park, and then open their trunks and tailgates and sell from there! It’s a good idea to bring a small table or blanket to put your items out on.

Again this year we will have a Tailgate Sale, on Saturday only, where you sell items out of the trunk of your car.  This sale is specifically targeted for folks who are renters or apartments dwellers who do not have a yard or garage to sell from like homeowners do.  Also typically, they do not have a lot of stuff to sell, so can pack their items into their car or van and sell from that. Bring your own table and chair if you wish.

To Register: Please contact Jenny Michlitsch. Include:

  • Contact E-mail address
  • Street address of sale or whether you will participate in the tailgate sale at Pratt
  • Phone number
  • Short list of items/categories of items you will have for sale (you can also provide or update this list later if you need to)
  • Which day(s) your sale will be (Saturday only or Saturday + Sunday); (Tailgate sales will be Saturday only.)

Deliver the $8 registration fee to Jenny Michlitsch (cash or check made out to PPA) via mail or drop off in person at 86 SE Arthur Ave. (mail slot is in front door). You will get a receipt. Registration deadline: Monday, June 13.

Also, advance notices for registration will be on the ppe-list. Neighbors can register if planning a garage or yard sale on this weekend. The coordinated effort is advertised within and outside the Prospect Park and East River Road neighborhoods.

Registrant's Locations:  will be shown on a map flyer (no other personal information will be released), and a line of text describing items you have for sale will be included. You will get maps to hand out at your sale and will be handed out at this year's EcoTour check-in point at Pratt. Yard signs will be posted along major streets in the PP neighborhood the week before the sale.

Ads: Will run in the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press websites, The Highland Villager, and The St. Anthony Park Bugle, Seward Profile (online), etc. We will also advertise on social media (PP E-list, NextDoor, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).

Past Yard Sales

In 2021, Yard Sales teamed up with the Garden Walk and also the Home Tour to maximize on the foot traffic in the neighborhood that weekend. Locations of Yard Sales that participate were featured on a map available at local shops and at all sale sites. The event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
